FOR ALL AGES
Fairies, much like unicorns, are the kind of magical being that have long had the power to elicit joy and wonder in children.
Consequently, there are a huge number of fairy-themed toys, books, costumes and craft sets on the market. Each of these toys has its own magical properties, each ready to enchant a little fairy-loving child.
There are fairy dolls and figurines, play sets and colouring books, fairy puzzles and accessories. We've hunted down the best fairy toys and arranged them in this handy list so that you can make an informed decision. We've tried to include a range of products so that there will be something to delight all sorts of children, whether they be a toddler or older, quiet, crafty or creative.
We found the Hatchimals Flying Pixie to be one of the most original options - it can actually fly! - whilst the Moulin Roty fairy doll has proved particularly popular with children and adults alike. Traditionally, most fairy-themed playthings have often been labelled girls' toys, but times are changing. We see no reason why these toys can't be unisex - why shouldn't boys play with fairies and princesses?
Take a peek at our pick of the best fairy toys on the market and find the one that's right for your child. And for more magical toys, take a look at our selection of the best Disney princess gifts and the best unicorn toys for kids.
This innovative fairy garden toy had to come top of our list. The set contains a two-storey flowerpot fairy house, two fairies, a butterfly, frog, ladybird and a number of cute little accessories; all the ingredients, in other words, to spark endless imaginative play. But the best part is the roof, to which you can add soil and grow real edible greens with the cress and pea seeds provided, giving kids the chance to hand grow and cultivate their own enchanted fairy garden. The miniature water butt allows kids to store water for tending to their little plants, and the wind spinner and bughouse are nice touches. A full colour instruction manual is included, so independent play is possible for older children. A wholesome toy that's both entertaining and educational. Win.
This soft little fairy doll from children's favourites Moulin Roty is so sweet. We loved the velvet hair (particularly the ginger, though there are other colours available), which is so soft to the touch, and the satin hair bow. There is a real attention to detail here that is evident in all her features and appendages, from her delicately embroidered facial features to her pretty pink wings. Her spotty dress is overlaid with a layer of shimmering gold tulle and glittering slippers complete the look. She's fully machine washable (on a 30 degree wash) and suitable for children as young as one. In fact, we think this doll would be a perfect starter toy for younger fairy enthusiasts, as she's completely soft with no sharp edges or small parts. A beautifully-designed toy that would make a lovely gift.
You can count on Melissa & Doug to create engaging, good-quality children's products, and this stamp set is no exception. With 20 rubber stamps imprinted with the outlines of fairies, toadstools, lily pads, stars, frogs, butterflies and so much more, your little one will be well on their way to creating their very own magical fairy land. There are two stamp pads containing pink and purple ink, both of which are completely washable, so you needn't worry about stained clothes or work surfaces. Five colouring pencils are also included for adding extra detail. This is an absorbing set that will promote creative expression, help develop hand-eye coordination and encourage sustained focus away from screens. Hours of creative fun to be had.
This charming wooden fairy carriage set is the perfect gift for children who love playing with dolls or generally engaging in interactive play. Complete with a wooden fairy figurine and a beautifully-painted rolling carriage pulled by a unicorn, the set provides endless opportunity for imaginative storylines and scenarios. Hand-finished on high quality and sustainable rubberwood, it's an eco-friendly choice that's designed to last for years, perfect for passing on to younger siblings. The unicorn is detachable and the set is compatible with other accessories and figurines in the Le Toy Van Fairies and Budkin doll ranges, so you can expand the set over time if your child is really taken with it. We loved the tactile elements and sweet little design features of the fairy and unicorn figures, particularly the fuzzy mane, jewel-encrusted fairy wings and decorative floral harness.
This fairy dress-up activity book may seem a little old school in comparison with similar games now available on an iPad, but we love it for that. Children will have to practise care and precision when pressing out the Flower Fairy figures and their corresponding costumes, which fix together with little folding flaps. Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairies have been beloved amongst fairy-lovers since 1923 and it's so easy to see why. The illustrations are vivid and beautiful, their wings and costumes immensely intricate. Compared with modern-day fairy toys (which tend to be more cartoonish and are so often Disney themed), they make for an enchanting depiction. This book is recommended for children aged four years and older, but we think it's likely to be a bit fiddly for children that young. Perhaps better suited to die-hard fairy-enthusiasts of seven or eight (or parents looking to engage in a little nostalgia!).
This fairy fancy dress set is perfect for role play or a costume party. Complete with pretty peach wings and a delicate flowered headband your little one will look the fairy in no time. At £35 for the two, it's a bit on the pricey side, but they make such a beautiful set and are so much more elegantly-designed than the others on the market. The peach cotton stitched with sweet pink detailing, the sparkly gold straps and fluttering pastel flowers are the sorts of details that wouldn't look out of place at a wedding, and they all come packaged in a neat little drawstring bag, perfect for storage.
Puzzles are a really beneficial activity for children, a great way to improve focus, memory, problem-solving abilities and encourage collaborative play. This fun fairy jigsaw is a great way to engage fairy-lovers in such beneficial play. There are 50 pieces, so it should keep kids engaged for a while, the colourful fairy palace scene is bright and engaging and at £8 it's great value, too. Better still, there are 15 parts painted in heat-sensitive ink which, when rubbed, reveal hidden treasures; a nice extra touch. Not only will this fairy puzzle be a great learning toy, but it also has a sprinkle of magic too!
This sparkling fairy mosaic craft set is a great way to get kids using their hands, improving motor skills and promoting creativity. There are six sparkly mosaic designs to be created: two fairies, a unicorn, a butterfly, toadstool and an owl. The foam and glitter tiles are self-adhesive, so there's no messy glue (or extra spending) required, and each has a corresponding number to indicate where it should be stuck. Think paint by numbers, mosaic style. And, of course, fairy-themed! The instructions are easy for kids to follow and the finished designs make great room decoration. Great for a party activity or a rainy afternoon.
This nifty little gadget is sure to delight fairy-loving boys and girls: the sparkling wings actually work, sending the pixie doll spinning around the room. Just charge her up using the USB cable provided (which doesn't take too long), lift her into the air and your kids can guide her movements by placing their hands close and lifting her in the chosen direction. Bear in mind this may take some practice, but it's a good way to get kids up and moving around! Perhaps best to save her for outside use, though. Her sparkly wings are designed to stop moving if little hands come into contact with them, so you don't need to worry about injuries, and she's neatly stored in her accompanying crystal egg when she's not in use. The ultimate flying fairy toy.
No fairy-lover's toy set is complete without a magic wand, the perfect tool for make-believe play, and this Meri Meri one is particularly sweet. Made from delicate pink felt and stitched with shimmering glitter accents, it's perfectly sized to be held with little hands. The pink and peach ribbon tassels make a lovely extra touch, and kids will love watching them stream as they cast their spells. Dress-up play is super beneficial for a child's development: it encourages kids to use their imagination, improve communication and play creatively. This wand makes a perfect addition to the fairy wings mentioned above and a wonderful toy to assist in childish role-play. With a finish this elegant and sparkly, can we have one too?
As we've already said, we're huge fans of Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairies, which are so beautifully illustrated. This Flower Fairies Colouring Book allows children to make artwork that's just as exquisite. Colouring is such an essential childhood activity, helping to stimulate creativity, improve concentration and encourage self-expression, as well as develop hand strength. It's also a great way to encourage some quiet time. There are an impressive 45 elaborate pages to ink (enough to keep your child occupied for hours on end), all featuring well known Flower Fairy characters. Each is quite intricate - probably better suited to older children if they care about staying within the lines, though there's nothing to stop littler fairy-lovers scribbling away with joyous abandon!
