FOR ALL AGES
History has been kind in giving due recognition to Greek philosophers such as Socrates, Aristotle and the likes.
One must be bitten by the bug to dig deeper to come across the name Plutarch (Lucius Metrius Plutarch). Born in Chaeronea, Boetia in 46 AD Plutarch is known for his great work 'Parallel Lives', a series of biographies of illustrious Greeks and Romans, and 'Moralia', a collection of essays and speeches.
While being a Greek middle Platonist philosopher, he also spent considerable effort as an essayist, historian, biographer, and notably the priest at the Temple of Apollo. Plutarch was not one to shy away from radical ideas that questioned the status quo. In fact, he was vegetarian (to what extent is not well known) and has written on the ethics of eating meat in 'Moralia'. Some of history's biggest names resonate in our minds owing to the biographies written by Plutarch. The life of Alexander and Caesar being some notable names one might've heard of.
Plutarch was a Platonist, open to influence from Peripatetics. Rejecting the notion that all questions could be answered, Plutarch devoted his effort to answer questions of morality and religion instead. Explore his insights and his inquisitive mind through these Plutarch quotes.
