FOR ALL AGES
Eating breakfast improves your child's concentration, energy levels and helps them to stay healthy and motivated during the morning.
This is why breakfast has long been considered the most important meal of the day for children and grown-ups alike.
Breakfast is also a great way for kids to start learning their way around the kitchen. We've put together a list of healthy, protein-packed breakfast recipes that your kids can enjoy making as well as eating, at any age. Some of our breakfast recipes are better for older children because they use tools like the microwave or blender, but under-5s can still help out with preparing to make these with a helping hand from a parent.
Age: Under 5s
This delicious breakfast is so simple to make, your little ones will love putting them together by themselves. For slightly older kids, you can leave some pre-cut fruit and single-serve yoghurts on a shelf in the fridge they can easily reach, and they'll soon be able to make the whole thing without any help from you at all!
Ingredients:
Fruit, cut into bite-sized pieces, we like a mixture of berries and banana
Granola
Single Portion Yoghurts
Honey (Squeeze bottles are easier for younger kids to use)
Simply spoon the yoghurt into a plastic tumbler or bowl, sprinkle a kid-sized handful of granola, some fruit and a squeeze of honey (optional) and your parfait is ready to go! Kids under 5 can easily make these themselves, but we recommend laying the ingredients out on the table and keep an eye on how they're getting on - if only to prevent a messy kitchen afterwards!

Cheese omelettes are a tasty, protein-packed start to the day, and this microwave recipe is great for when your kids are still a little bit too young to work the stove on their own. We do recommend a grown-up taking the container out of the microwave though, because it can get quite hot, and we want to make sure your kids stay safe!
Ingredients:
2 eggs
Spray oil
1 kid-sized handful of grated cheese
2 slices of ham, chopped (optional)
8 halved cherry tomatoes
A small plastic bowl or container
Spray the inside of the container with the oil, and crack eggs and whisk. If your kids struggle not to get shell in the eggs, this can be done by a parent beforehand and left in a bowl in the fridge overnight.
Once the eggs are whisked, stir in the tomatoes, cheese and ham.
Microwave for 30-second increments for about 2 and a half minutes, and after each 30 seconds, remove the eggs and check if they're fully cooked (there's no liquid left in the jar). Tuck in!

We like to pre-boil eggs for this recipe and keep them in the fridge - they stay fresh for up to a week! That way it is easy for kids to assemble these tasty breakfast pizzas themselves when they get up in the morning.
Ingredients:
1 English muffin
butter
tomato slices
2 hard-cooked eggs, sliced
Grated mozzarella
Start by toasting your English muffins, then add butter, pre-boiled eggs, tomato slices and a sprinkle of mozzarella. If no grown-ups are around, kids can eat their pizzas just like this, but we think they're most delicious when a parent helps by putting the whole thing under the grill for 5 minutes to melt the cheese.

For kids that are old enough to use a blender, breakfast smoothies can be quick and simple breakfast recipes while they're on the go. We find smoothie specific blenders are best for little hands. All you need to do is chop up fruit and pop into portion-sized freezer bags in the freezer, and let kids grab them when they're hungry!
Ingredients:
1 banana, chopped
A handful of spinach
A handful of mixed berries (frozen or fresh)
Fruit Juice
1 mango, peeled and sliced
For this simple breakfast recipe, all your little one needs to do is empty the frozen fruit bag into the blender cup, add fruit juice and whizz into a smoothie. However we recommend teaching them how to safely use a blender beforehand, and a grown-up always being present to supervise.
