Ferganasaurus is considered a genus of neosauropod dinosaurs that inhabited Kyrgyzstan and existed during the Callovian stage of the Middle Jurassic period. The first fossil was conducted in 1966 and the second in 2002. It is somewhat similar to Rhoetosaurus, found in the same locality. Research yielding new material hasn't been much fruitful.
It is pronounced as 'Fer-gan-ah-sore-us'.
Its classification is fraught with conflicting theories. They have been placed under the classification of a neosauropod as well as sauropod order.
The Ferganasaurus existed during the Callovian stage of the Middle Jurassic period, about 165 million years ago.
Science has failed to conclude when the Ferganasaurus went extinct. However, sauropods were defunct around 145 million years ago, so it can be expected the same for this species.
The locality of a Ferganasaurus was mainly the Fergana Valley and the Balabansai Formations, Kyrgyzstan.
Research suggests that the species lived in a terrestrial habitat.
The fossils discovered failed to answer whether they lived alone or in groups.
The lifespan of Ferganasauras is not known. Sauropods, however, lived in around a range of 30-50 years which may be applicable here too.
The Ferganasaurus reproduced by laying eggs.
The Ferganasauras were large in size with a rugged skin. Like several middle Jurassic dinosaurs, it had a large body with strong forelimbs and a huge tail and may have had neck frills.
The number of bones has not been recognized. Fossils of the partial skeleton along with the skull and vertebrae have only been examined by the School of Zoology.
No communication records have been identified.
30 ft (9 m) of length and 6.6 ft (2 m) of height indicates that the Ferganasauras were huge in nature.
No records are available regarding the speed of this breed.
The weight of a Ferganasauras is estimated at 11772.7 lb (5340 kg).
No specific name has been ascribed to the male and female.
A baby Ferganasaurus may be called a hatchling.
These dinosaurs may have used their mouth and tail to defend themselves. No concrete information on their aggressiveness is available.
The dinosaur derived its name, meaning Fergana Valley Lizard, from paleontologists Alifanov and Averianov in 2003.
The Ferganasaurus is one of the oldest species of neosauropods found during the Middle Jurassic, as mentioned in the journal of 'Vertebrate Paleontology'.
