Jacek

Jacek is a name with Polish origin and the meaning of Jacek is 'jacenty', which means 'hyacinth'. A hyacinth is a highly fragrant flower that grows in a bell shape and is mainly grown outdoors. There is a Greek legend that the flowers are named after. The two gods Apollo and Zephyr had a discus throwing competition, to prove who was the strongest. A Greek boy Hyakinthos mistakenly got hit by a discus and died as a result. Flowers grew up from patches where his blood had fallen, so the flowers were named in his honour. It is because of this that the flower has associations to sport. As a gift, it is given when somebody wants to ask for forgiveness or feels regret. It is also given as a symbol of someone's apology if they have been jealous, sorrowful or acted in a rash manner. Variations of this name are Jacinto, Giacinto, Jácint, Hyacinth.
