FOR ALL AGES
Set sail on a DIY cardboard pirate ship and ride the waves of your imagination with this simple craft activity!
Ahoy matey! Have you got a family of little Captain Jack Sparrows? Well a pirate is lost without their trusty boat, so why not make a cardboard pirate ship all of your own using any old boxes you have lying around! You can set up your DIY pirate ship either indoors or in the garden (though watch out for rain - you don't want your cardboard boat to sink!) and decorate it as imaginatively as you like. Complete your nautical look with a paper Jolly Roger flag and cardboard tube telescope to watch out for any other pesky pirates. Make your own simple cardboard pirate ship in less than ten minutes but keep the kids role-playing for hours - win! All you need is a cardboard box or some lose cardboard pieces, a roll of tape and a fervent imagination...
1.Either cut the opening off of one large cardboard box or open up a few smaller ones and tape them together into a rectangle with a pointed front
2.Draw planks of 'wood' all around your cardboard box and anything else to make your DIY pirate ship feel as realistic as possible, like an anchor and some waves lapping at the bottom of the boat
3.Draw a skull and crossbones onto a piece of paper and tape it to one end of a cardboard tube for your Jolly Roger flag
4.Step inside your ship and grab any other cardboard tubes as telescopes to spy for enemies!
