Paultons Park

Are you looking for theme parks in the UK that younger kids (and adults) will love? Spoil the whole family and treat them to a trip to Paultons Park in Hampshire. The theme park is set within 140 acres of beautiful parkland on the edge of the New Forest National Park. There’s a variety of amazing things to do and see at the park, including roller coaster rides, indoor and outdoor play areas, water splash parks, animated shows, exotic birds and other fun activities for all ages. 

One of the major attractions of the park is of course Peppa Pig World, which is designed for kids between the ages of 1 to 6. Entry is included in all the entry tickets to the park and the attraction is a fantastic place for a family visit. Peppa Pig World opened in 2011 and while you're there you can meet the cartoon’s most popular characters every day on the veranda in front of the school house. Spend the day hopping on and off the Peppa Pig World rides, including The Queen's Flying Coach, Grampy Rabbit’s Sailing Club and Grandpa Pig’s Little Train.

A hit with Kidadlers, Gemma says: "My husband took our boys aged seven to 13 round the traditional theme park and I took our two girls round Peppa Pig World. I loved the park and was really impressed with the layout and design. I also liked that apart from Peppa Pig there were lots of play areas for younger kids so you had options if you didn’t want to queue for rides. It’s also not enormous and easily navigable so in the end our 12 and 13-year-old went round on their own and I didn’t feel like I was likely to lose them. A great day out. Highly recommend."

Paultons Park also has several other themed worlds. Dino-mad kids will love exploring the Lost Kingdom, a dinosaur theme park. You’ll find two dinosaur roller coasters, lifelike animatronic dinosaurs and a prehistoric dinosaur adventure play park. Animal loving kids can meet a variety of animals at Little Africa, including African crested porcupines, meerkats, giant train millipedes, plus one of the largest rodents in Africa, the Gambian pouched rat. There is also a walk-through aviary, where you can spot loads of unique birds.

What to know before you go
 

• Paultons Park is designed for families with children below the age of 14.
• Paultons Park can get busy in the school holidays, especially summer, so you should expect queues. Peppa Pig World can be especially busy and we would recommend that you either visit first before queues have time to build or in the afternoons when fewer people are in the park. Often the rest of the park is much quieter at peak times.
• Penguin feeding sessions take place at 12pm and 3.30pm each day.
• The bouncy castle and fun trampolines sit under a shaded area opposite the go-karts.
• Water Kingdom splash park is the ideal way to cool off on a hot day.
• Journey round the park on the gentle Rio Grande Train Ride.
• What about rainy conditions? The park is outdoors and the majority of the rides are outside. Some rides and attractions are affected by the weather and may close during extreme weather conditions such as high winds, very heavy rain or thunder and lightning.
• If you are pregnant or have back, spinal, high/low blood pressure or heart conditions, please check that the rides are suitable before you ride.
• Don’t forget to come prepared and bring swimming costumes, towels and goggles so you can take advantage of the water splash parks.
• You can hire a buggy at the park. Numbers are limited so it’s best to pre-book on the website.
• You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to food and drinks. There are numerous cafés and plenty of picnic spaces on site. Kidadler Veronica says, "there is a service station not far from Paultons with [an] M&S [where] we picked up sandwiches, crisps, fruit and juice there. It was way cheaper [than the cafes]."
• You can now pre-order food and drinks before you get to the park and it will be ready to collect when you are hungry.
• The park has disabled access. Many of the rides are designed to be fully accessible to disabled guests.
• Baby-changing facilities and feeding areas are available. These are located inside the main entrance plaza, at Lost Kingdom, adjacent to the Pirate Ship and in Peppa Pig World.
• Baby bottle and food heating is available at restaurants and kiosks.
• The park is open from 10am-5pm. Opening times and dates are subject to change – always check before setting off.

 Getting there

• If you are driving, the park is just off exit 2 of the M27. It is clearly signposted. For westbound traffic, when leaving the M3 to join the M27 please bear left to take the M27 west towards Bournemouth and Southampton.
• You can park for free at the theme park.
• From London, the park will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to drive. From Southampton, it’s approximately a 15-minute drive.
• The nearest mainline train stations are Southampton Airport Parkway, which is 10 miles away with a 15-minute taxi drive to the park, and Southampton Central, which is 8 miles away with a 10-15-minute taxi drive to the park.
