Qays

Qays is of Arabic origin and it is traditionally a boy's name. The meaning of Qays is ‘firm’. Other variants of the name are Qais and Kais. It is a common given name and a family name or surname as well. The name is also associated with that of the Qays ‘Aylan Arab group of tribes or clans. They were a subdivision of the Mudar Group and consisted of the Hawazin, Ghatafan, Banu Amir, Banu Sulaym, Thaqif, Bahila, Banu Ghani, and Banu Muharib tribes or clans. The Qays were also referred to as ‘North Arabians’.
