Now restrictions due to COVID-19 are slowly beginning to ease you might be looking to plan a perfect family holiday little closer to home.

Whether you're looking to enjoy one of Scotland's exciting cities or the beautiful Scottish countryside there's a hotel that will be perfect for you and your family. Family-friendly hotels are plentiful in Scotland.

1) Norton House Hotel and Spa - Edinburgh

Norton House Hotel is a mix of modern amenities, luxury and traditional elegance. This family friendly property is set slightly outside of the main city and is in 55 acres of gardens and grounds. So lots of open space for kids to play and run around.  You can also sit on the terrace overlooking some of this beautiful open space.

Your gourmet breakfast (one of the best in town) is included in your overnight stay. Oak-smoked salmon and scrambled eggs are the hotel's breakfast speciality, as well as sweet Belgian waffles for those in the family with a sweet tooth.  If you don't fancy going in to the city for dinner there is a Brasserie serving traditional Scottish food with a twist.

Treatments in the hotel's spa are only for adults, but there is a swimming pool that children can use during specially dedicated times everyday. Monday to Sunday timings are 9am to 11am and then 3pm to 7pm, so plenty of time to splash about! All the use of the luxury leisure facilities are included in the price of your room. There is also free WiFi for when you want to relax.

2) The Balmoral - Edinburgh

The Balmoral is the home of family friendly luxury in the heart of Edinburgh. Most rooms have the option of an extra fold out bed for children as well as a milk and cookies turndown service for younger guests. Expect special children's bed linen, slippers and robes.

This package includes 50% off an interconnecting room for two children, breakfast for the whole family as well as complimentary meals for children under three years old. 3) The Stevenson House - Edinburgh

If you and your kids are fans of the Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island then you won't want to miss the opportunity to stay in the late author's Edinburgh home.

If you're looking for accommodation that's very homely and a little bit quirky on your family holidays to Scotland then this hotel is the place for your family. There are only two rooms to stay in so it's certainly worth booking in advance if you have a particular weekend or dates in mind.  Both the double bedroom and the twin bedroom include a breakfast with home-baked bread and jams as well as free WiFi during your stay.

4) Sherbrooke Castle Hotel - Glasgow

This child-friendly luxury hotel is set in beautiful private gardens in a southern suburb of Glasgow. Perfect if you want to be close to the city but need a little more peace and quiet in the mornings and evenings.

The hotel has free on-site parking and WiFi and each room includes a full Scottish breakfast. If you are staying in one of the cottage rooms, for an extra £30 you can bring your family pet, pet baskets and bowls are available too.

The on-site restaurant The Morrison offers an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner if you don't want to make the journey into the city.

This hotel is only a five minute walk from Glasgow Central Train Station, so perfect if you're arriving by train or you want to stay in the thick of the city.

Enjoy a 5 star luxury stay on the shores of Loch Lomond. Golf, boat and ramble to your heart's content, or however far little feet will take you. Family hotels rarely offer this level of luxury as well as friendly staff to help you make the most of your stay.

9) Tullie Inn - Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park

Tullie Inn offers en-suite family rooms, great pub food and a cosy child friendly atmosphere. Loch Lomond offers majestic views and a fabulous place to explore. Sit in the garden and sample their Sunday roast. This hotel offers a more relaxed feel than some of the other hotels on our list, friendly staff and hearty meals are the order of the day at the Tullie Inn.
