What is 'Giselle' about?
Giselle is a young peasant girl who falls in love with a handsome duke named Albrecht. However, the peasant girl is not told about his nobility and that her lover Albrecht is engaged to someone else. Giselle gets mad when she comes to know of this deception and is broken-hearted. She dies of a broken heart and the story changes. Vengeful spirits of abandoned brides, young women who passed away before their wedding day, gather around Giselle's grave to welcome her soul into the ranks of the Wilis. Any men who cross their path have to dance until they die. Albrecht falls right into this trap. Giselle truly loves Albrecht, so her soul eventually saves him from his fate. Giselle, like her lover Albrecht, also releases herself from the power of the Wilis.
