About 'Grease the Musical'
What is 'Grease the Musical' about?
'Grease the Musical' is back! The story follows two young teenagers. After a lovely whirlwind summer romance in the summer break, leather-jacket wearing Danny and the innocent next-door neighbour Sandy go through an unexpected reunion at Rydell High when she joins the school for her senior year. The question is will their young love survive in the trials of teenage life.
The musical starts during the summer school break. Sandy Dumbrowski and Danny Zuko are neighbours who fall in love during the break. Sandy is known to be innocent and sweet, while Danny is a bad boy with a soft heart. Soon Sandy turns up in Rydell High the next autumn for her senior year and now both the teenagers find it hard to spark their love again. Sandy still remembers the sweet boy who made her feel like a lady and Danny thinks he is too cool for love during school. With the help of the Pink Ladies, Danny falls for her again. This tale of teenage love in the backdrop of Rydell High is common for many teenagers nowadays and that makes this one of the popular musicals of the generation.
And now it is back at the West End for everyone to see. This production of the classic show started as a UK tour in 2019.
'Grease' debuted in 1971 in Chicago and had its Broadway premiere in 1972. The London premiere was in 1973 and starred Richard Gere in the lead.
