Nowadays, the trio is all grown up and dealing with marriage and parenthood in different ways. Harry is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, and a husband and father of three school-age children, and he still grapples with a past that constantly threatens to spill into his present.

Meanwhile, a new generation of witches and wizards is heading to Hogwarts, including Harry and Ginny's second son Albus, who is dealing not only with the heavy legacy of being the Chosen One's child, but also with the pressure of living up to his charismatic older brother James.

Based on a new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, this enchanting two-part production premiered in London's West End in 2016 and has since become one of the most critically acclaimed plays in history, winning a record-breaking 9 Olivier Awards since its debut, along with 6 Tony Awards and even a GRAMMY nomination for the Broadway production.

Directed by John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has an incredible creative team behind it, with movement led by Steven Hoggett, set by Christine Jones, costume design by Katrina Lindsay, music by Imogen Heap, lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Gareth Fry, and magical special effects by Jamie Harrison. The show is presented on stage by Sonia Friedman Productions.

The production stars the mesmerising Jamie Ballard, Michelle Gayle and Thomas Aldridge as Harry, Ron and Hermione respectively, along with Susie Trayling and James Howard as Ginny Potter and Draco Malfoy, and incredible young talent in the form of Rayxia Ojo, Dominic Short and Jonathan Case as the group's offspring.

What to know before you go

• You do not need to have watched the films or read the books to follow the story, though it would certainly add an extra layer of magic if you have.
• Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is presented in two parts. When you book your Harry Potter and the Cursed Child tickets you may book two consecutive parts on the same day, or split the experience and watch part 2 on another day. It is not possible to only book 1 part.
• Part 1 is 2 hours 40 minutes while part 2 is 2 hours 35 minutes, both of which include a 20-minute interval.
• Aim to arrive between half an hour to an hour before the start of your performance.
• Latecomers will not be admitted until the interval.
• Bag checks will be in place. No bags or suitcases over 41 x 31 x 16 cm will be permitted and there is no bag storage in the theatre.
• Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is suitable for children aged 10+. All under-15s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Babes-in-arms are not permitted.
• There is an accessible toilet at the rear of the Stalls and more toilets on all levels.
• Bars can be found on all levels. Wheelchair users may contact a member of staff for assistance buying refreshments, as the bars are not accessible.
• Wheelchair users can access the theatre through a side exit door on Shaftesbury Avenue. A member of staff at the front entrance or Box Office will be able to grant access.
• There is a 3 cm step to the Stalls. All aisle seats in the Stalls are suitable for people who wish to transfer from their wheelchair.
• The standard entrance has 20 steps so guests with limited mobility may enter the Stalls via the foyer. There are more stairs to the Dress Circle, Upper Circle and Balcony.
• Guide dogs are welcome and aisle seats are recommended. A dog sitting service is also available.
• A Williams Sound hearing assistance system is available.
• There are plenty of great restaurants in the area covering a range of cuisines and dietary requirements, including themed restaurants like Rainforest Cafe or Hard Rock Cafe, popular chains like Nando's and Patty & Bun, and unique offerings like The Coach and Horses, London's first vegetarian and vegan pub.

Getting there

• The show takes place in the heart of the West End at the Palace Theatre. Its address is 113 Shaftesbury Avenue, London W1D 5AY.
• At the heart of the West End, the theatre is  a short walk from multiple Tube stations, including Leicester Square (Northern and Piccadilly lines) and Tottenham Court Road (Central and Northern lines), both under five minutes away.
• If you're travelling by train, Charing Cross station (Bakerloo and Northern lines and National Rail services) is only a 12-minute walk away.
• Plenty of buses serve the surrounding area, including routes 14, 19, 24, 29, 38, 55, 73, 98, 176 and 390.
• Q-Park Chinatown is the closest car park at only a three-minute walk away, while Q-Park Covent Garden is also nearby at seven minutes away.
• Make the most of Q-Park’s Theatreland Parking Scheme, which saves you 50% on parking after 12pm for up to four hours. Validate your Q-Park car park ticket at the theatre box office and the car park machine will automatically take 50% off when you exit.
• There are some parking meters at Soho Square but these spaces fill up quickly. The NCP on Brewer Street is a six-minute walk away.
