Handy Tips

Be sure to tap your homemade ice lollies once they're in their moulds to remove any air bubbles.

If your kids are messy chefs, try using a funnel or a freezer bag with a corner chopped off for a steadier way to fill your moulds.

If you're struggling to get your homemade ice lollies out of their moulds, run them under a warm tap for a few seconds and they'll loosen right up.

If you can't keep your sticks in the middle, try putting your lollies in the freezer without for 30 minutes, and then add the sticks. Be sure to set a timer so you don't forget!

If you don't eat your icy treats within a couple of days, wrap separately in baking paper and pop into a freezer bag - this will stop them picking up any freezer tastes.

Get Creative

In short, you can make ice lollies from almost anything, so we give you full permission to get creative! If you don't have any of the things you need, feel free to swap them out with something else, or even just forgo them altogether. Kids will love inventing their own lolly recipes. Just take a liquid base like a juice, smoothie, yoghurt or fizzy drink, and mix in some small berries and anything else you want to try! This is a great time to raid your baking cupboard for chocolate chips, sprinkles and mini treats leftover from other tasty makes.

No Moulds? We've Got You Covered

Don't worry if you haven't got ice lolly moulds to hand, there are loads of things in your kitchen you can use instead. Why not try:

Small baking tins, muffin or cupcake tins

Yoghurt pots - you can just pop a stick in full ones and freeze them for instant lollies, or wait until they're finished and refill the pots

Plastic or paper cups

Ice cube trays
