Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie, better known to the world as Salman Rushdie, was born on 19 June 1947.

Rushdie is a British Indian novelist and essayist who has written many notable books. Most notable of his works are 'Midnight's Children' and 'The Satanic Verses', both of which are quite controversial.

Born and raised in Bombay, India, Rushdie studied in a private school in Bombay before attending a boarding school, The Rugby School, in Warwickshire, England. He later went on to study history when he attended King's College at the University of Cambridge. He is ranked thirteenth on The Times' list of the 50 greatest British writers since 1945.
